20 things I’ve learnt before turning 20

Today, I turn 20! To me, that sounds crazy… but everyone else just keeps telling me how young I am. In the two decades I’ve been on this earth now, I feel like I’ve learnt some key things that’ll carry me into my twenties. I haven’t quite got everything figured out yet (but let’s face it, who has?!) however I thought it’d be fun to document my current thoughts on my blog now to look back on this time next year!

Here goes:

  1. Listen to your parents advice… they’re most probably right!
  2. Looking after yourself should be a priority.
  3. A cup of tea and a big bar of Dairy Milk can quite literally make everything better. Everything.
  4. The grass isn’t greener on the other side, only where you water it.
  5. In the words of Justin Bieber (although perhaps not the way he meant it) you should go and love yourself.
  6. Quantity of friends means nothing – quality means everything!
  7. Don’t take criticism to heart. Use it to your advantage and constantly improve.
  8. On a similar note, there’s no point in letting hardships and heartbreak change you negatively. Life is all about love and companionship, whether it be with friends or romantically. Be happy and care for people!
  9. Write things down. Seriously, I have short term memory issues.
  10. If you’re not happy about something and it’s really affecting you and you can change it, do.
  11. You don’t have to have everything figured out by the time you leave school. Just do something you are good at and doors will open! If you love your job you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
  12. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help.
  13. Keep your word, even if it’s the smallest of things.
  14. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt and never ever judge on first appearances or what you hear. Ignorance isn’t bliss.
  15. Be spontaneous… you never know what could happen!
  16. Don’t take yourself too seriously. I used to and it was a nightmare; life is better when you brush things off and move on.
  17. Yoga and going to the gym works wonders for your life, as much as everyone jokes about it. Mental health, physical health and overall happiness should be super important!
  18. Be kind.
  19. Learning to cook is pretty important. I’m on the road to becoming a domestic goddess (she says hopefully).
  20. Positivity is the key to being happy. Just SMILE!
