Making New Years resolutions for 2019

Making New Years resolutions for 2019

Let’s start this post with a confession… I’ve started many a blog in my time, and a lot of them haven’t followed through. For example, you're currently reading 'Project Becks' 3.0. Back in New Years 2016, I wrote about ‘Why I’m Not Making New Years Resolutions’ (I might re-post this someday) - with a view to stop being so hard on myself when said resolutions don’t happen and just choosing happiness and positivity instead. Now that I’m done being such a rebel three years later, I’ve decided to make some thought out and targeted resolutions for 2019.

2018 has probably been the best year I’ve had in a long while; I’ve worked on some great friendships, fallen in love, progressed in my career, visited some beautiful cities and spent much needed time with my family. On the flip side, I’ve also been working hard on my mental health, actively trying to be kinder to myself and had a lot of thinking to do about where I want my life to go. God… 22 is a weird age.

While I don’t believe in the whole ’New Year, New Me’ crap, I think the end of each year is naturally a time where many people reflect and make choices for their year ahead. Without further ado, lets get to some resolutions -

  1. Plan for the future: I know what you’re thinking… hey Becks, that’s pretty general. However, this is more of a mindset to change over time than a small goal that can be ticked off a list. I was having this conversation with my parents yesterday, about how up until now I was just trying to get to a certain level to be able to live how I’d like to. Now, I think it’s time to save money, invest and make some smart decisions for future me.

  2. Learn, learn, learn: If you aren’t learning, you’ve already lost the game. I don’t read anywhere as much as I’d like to and it’s something I’m aiming to make time for in 2019. In my good natured approach to the New Year, I’m going to plan in ways to learn a little each day, whether that be listening to podcasts on my way home from work or taking 30 minutes to read before bed. Achievable goals that won’t seem like such a hassle.

  3. Be active: I know that I love to exercise, but still going to the gym it feels like a chore. This is mostly down to the anxiety of stepping into a packed weights area after a long day at work and seeing people I know. In 2019, I’d like to go to the gym twice a week at the very least to take the time to look after my body and in turn, my mind.

  4. Have a room re-jig: This is probably the most solid goal I’ve created for 2019 and it starts NOW. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lovely room, but I’ve been talking about changing it around and making it more aesthetically pleasing for over a year. 2019 isn’t the year of realising stuff, it’s the year of re-jigging stuff, people. I may (or may not) be creating a room decor before and after type vlog on my YouTube, so watch out for that next year.

  5. Be creative: Now, I have quite a creative job, but the work I do there is for clients rather than for myself. In 2019 I’d like to go back to creating content, whether that be videos, blog posts, writing scripts… who knows!

Reading those resolutions back, it sounds like I’m aiming to do a lot for me next year. To people who don’t know me, that might sound narcissistic, but for those who do know me, it’s very much needed.

Now that I’ve got all this off my chest, what’s your biggest goal for next year?
